This policy covers the PlantAdvocate iOS app and the plantadvocate.ai website. It's written to be read, not skimmed past — but if anything is unclear, ask us at support@plantadvocate.ai.
PlantAdvocate is an indoor plant care assistant that grounds its advice in a curated species database. This policy explains what data we handle, why, and what control you have over it. "We" means the PlantAdvocate team, reachable at support@plantadvocate.ai.
We don't collect your precise location, your contacts, or anything from other apps.
We use your data to run PlantAdvocate: generating care advice for your specific plants, keeping your records in sync, sending the reminders you set, answering support requests, and fixing bugs. We also look at aggregated, de-identified usage patterns — never your individual plant diary — to decide which species and features to build next.
When you ask the advisor a question, your question and the relevant parts of your plant's record are sent to our third-party AI providers to generate a response. The advice itself is grounded in our curated species database — the AI's job is to reason over verified data, not to invent care facts.
Our AI providers process this content only to provide the service, under agreements that do not permit them to use your content to train their models. If you use photo-based features, the photos you submit are processed the same way.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers. We do not show ads. If our business model ever changed in a way that touched this section, we would tell you plainly before it took effect — not bury it in an update.
We share data only with the service providers required to run the app — cloud hosting, AI inference, and crash reporting — each bound to use it solely to provide their service to us. Beyond that, we would disclose data only if required by law, or as part of a business transfer, in which case this policy would continue to apply and you'd be notified.
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. Delete your account any time in the app (Settings → Account → Delete Account) or by emailing support@plantadvocate.ai from your account's email address.
Deletion removes your account, plant records, photos, and advisor history from our active systems right away, and from encrypted backups within 30 days.
Wherever you live, you can ask us to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data — email us and we'll handle it. If you're in a region with specific privacy laws (like the EU/UK under GDPR or California under the CCPA), those rights are yours by law, including the right to complain to your local supervisory authority. We'll never treat you differently for exercising them.
PlantAdvocate isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, with access limited to what's needed to operate the service. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach ever affected your data, we would notify you promptly and tell you exactly what happened.
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For material changes, we'll tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. The current version always lives at this page.
